  the bus ride
I am familiar with the in-between,
the me-shaped space
between what is, and is not.
between there and not really there,
between yes and most definitely not.

Today let's call this the bus ride.

i am sitting on a bus,
going somewhere.
It is a long way to go,
But the knowledge of what could be waiting makes the distance sweet.
it is a repetitive cycle of moving,
But the scenery is unceasing, beautiful and engaging.
the sky is dreary and grey,
But maybe, oh maybe it'll snow.

Between what I want and what I need,
Between who I am and who I should be,
Between all that was and all that will be,

there is me on this bus ride,
capturing in words the trajectory
of every emotion, real or illusory:
For remembrance of history
For the sake of my sanity
For matters of consequence are tricky
little things and if you don't catch them on the fly,
there is a tendency to miss the deepest note in its tune.

So here on this bus ride,
in a cramped space for two
I spin out a metaphor so i won't be a fool.
in between today and tomorrow's view,
this is what it feels like, to wait for you.

So tell me,
Does your butt hurt from this bus ride too?
